Jim Steg and Brandon James Duncan, two former guests join us on this special episode of the Resist Average Academy to reveal the lessons learned coming fresh from an intense, deep, spiritual experience called Kokoro put on my Seal Fit and Mark Divine.

We wanted to create this episode to reveal to the listeners how what we do physically can allow us to learn about ourselves in a deeper, more powerful way and how to avoid the life of comfort and security and instead chase the impossible.

Sit back and listen to this powerful content and see what you may apply from it. It doesn’t mean you have to sign up for something crazy, but maybe you decide to sign up for a 5K or 10K, competition or adventure race to further fuel your fitness and training goals.

To learn more about SealFit, visit www.SealFit.com. As a result of this experience, I have signed up for Kokoro in April 2017 and will be detailing my journey on social media.

AJ Richards served in the Utah National Guard and started a few businesses over the years. AJ is also an entrepreneur and the CEO of Rush Club Nation. He was born in Southern Utah and spent much of his childhood playing with cousins at the family cattle ranch. He dropped out of high school his senior year and joined the military. From the age of 16 until he deployed, AJ went through a new job every three months. In 2005 he deployed with his field artillery unit to Ramadi, Iraq.

After returning from Iraq, AJ took a job but found himself miserable selling pest control door-to-door. He was depressed and was soon misdiagnosed by doctors with PTSD. He chose to not take the prescribed antidepressants, he started exercising and discovered CrossFit as a way to enhance his mental and physical wellbeing.

AJ opened his own CrossFit gym in 2011, in 2013 he had an idea to do with CrossFit athletes and competition what Dana White did with the UFC. He took CrossFit and made it entertaining and added weight divisions. With only 3 years invested,  AJ is the CEO of Rush Club Nation. He’s been figuring out how to manage Rush Club’s popularity and massive growth while figuring out how to scale nationwide and globally.

In this episode we touch on discovering your purpose, the power of positivity, finding a mission that makes you wake up on fire with enthusiasm, the power of vulnerable leadership, the vision for Rush Club and so much more.

Mark Divine is from upstate New York and did his formal undergraduate education at Colgate University. His years at Colgate University were focused on the athletic endeavors of competitive swimming, rowing and triathlon racing.

Mark pursued a Ph.D. in Leadership at the University of San Diego and served as an Adjunct Professor of Leadership in their undergraduate school. The Doctorate was interrupted by a one-year recall to active duty for Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The recall took him to Baghdad in 2004 with SEAL Team One to conduct a special project studying the future role of the USMC in the Special Operations Command. Upon return home he left USD to focus on developing SEALFIT and put his Unbeatable Mind training philosophy to work on a new generation of Special Ops candidates.

I've been a big fan of Mark's training and life philosophy for years -- and his message resonates deeply with what I believe in. In this episode, we discuss the state of Men in 2016, the 5 mountains of becoming a warrior, how to transcend the physical and mental to develop the union of heart and mind called Kokoro, the power of silence and meditation and so much more.
